Selection Criteria
Demonstrated awareness and understanding of the issues encountered by young people and the ability to work alongside and support those who are experiencing barriers to education, training and employment.
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-faceted team, fostering effective working relationships with external agencies and service providers, and knowledge of a range of support services available to young people and families.
Demonstrated ability to work collegiately with teachers and other professionals to improve the attendance of students and their engagement in the classroom.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and network with a range of people within the college and community.
University level qualifications and/or experience in Student Support Services, youth work, or a relevant welfare field. A commitment to professional learning and growth.
Role
The successful applicant will require appropriate qualifications to work in the area of student welfare and wellbeing. They will be responsible for providing counselling and program implementation to enhance student wellbeing in the school. A high level of inter personal skills and communication skills are required as this person will work as part of a team with administration, sub school managers, level co-ordinators and staff overseeing the PSD program, as well as students and parents. This person also needs to be up to date with all legislative requirements related to Child Safe laws and Mandatory Reporting.
The Youth Worker / Social Worker is responsible for working as part of the Wellbeing Team, providing counselling, support and information for students, parents and staff regarding student wellbeing issues.
The successful applicant is not be required to work during school holidays.
Responsibilities
Provide counselling support to individual students as needed.
Develop and assist in delivering pro-active classroom and extra curricula programs that improve student resilience and well-being.
Provide information and advice to Parents, Guardians and students where appropriate.
Liaise with all members of the school community, to support the wellbeing of the students.
Liase with Community Service Organisations, outside agencies, specialist programs and other professionals regarding the support needs for students, parents and the school.
Other Duties - as required by Student Wellbeing Coordinator or Principal class.
