Genetic Pathology Registrar
Commencing 03.06.2024 – 03.11.2024 – Part Time – Fixed Term – Maternity Leave Cover

Unit Description:
The Royal Melbourne Hospital Molecular Genetics Department mainly provides adult non-cancer genetic testing services to the RMH Clinical Genetics Department and external referrers. The service includes NATA accredited Whole exome sequencing (WES), Sanger sequencing, PCR testing, DNA extraction, somatic PCR based molecular testing and somatic morphology methods including fluorescence in situ hybridisation. Research collaborations are many, including with the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and University of Melbourne.
About the role:
The registrar will work with the Head of Department, the clinical scientist and area manager in molecular pathology and all other medical and scientific staff in other disciplines which include molecular testing, management, teaching and research. The key focus is on constitutional variant curation and reporting as part of the WES service for adult non-cancer genomics. Note: this appointment is outside the National Genetic Pathology training scheme – please contact Dr Michael Christie for details.
About You:
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
- Australian citizen or permanent resident status
- MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
- Ability to work in a team
- Well-developed communication and presentation skills
- Experience in clinical or research laboratory practice.
