THE ROLE
You will report to the Dairy Farm Manager (and to the Board in the Dairy Farm Manager's absence). You will be responsible and accountable for helping to successfully manage the day-to-day operations of the Dairy Farm, contributing to, and setting the strategic priorities and objectives of the business.
Key requirements include:
- Ensuring the smooth running of the farm by adhering to the clearly defined operational plan, and the farm’s relevant policies and procedures.
- Implementing relevant strategic initiatives.
- Providing leadership that meets employer obligations and best practice in line with Invermay’s state of the art dairy business that aims for best practice across all aspects of its farming business including:
- Managing staff, providing leadership and guidance to the team.
- Milking procedures and milk quality.
- Calf rearing and heifer raising.
- Maintaining the highest animal welfare standards.
- Herd health and breeding programs.
- Maintaining farm infrastructure and machinery in excellent working condition.
- Ensuring the farm meets any environmental regulations or aspirations.
- Optimising feeding strategies that combine efficient use of pastures, fodder crops, feed pad and in shed feeding systems.
ABOUT YOU
This is a hands-on role that requires you working in collaboration with a range of stakeholders, including your colleagues, vets, herd improvement services, contractors and consultants. Additionally, you must have:
- Demonstrated experience working at a senior Dairy Farm hand or manager level role of a large-scale Dairy Farm operation.
- Excellent verbal, and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build and maintain sustainable relationships - high-level stakeholder management skills.
- Experience and ability to create systems throughout the farm to foster excellent performance and production targets.
- Excellent IT and computer skills to manage the digital management systems in place.
- The desire and strength to uphold high standards, meet legislative obligations and best practice.
- Ability to take responsibility be accountable and holding others accountable to deliver high quality farm outcomes.
- A genuine and innate concern for people and animal health and well-being.
