Friend Street Kindergarten has been welcoming children since 1952 and has built a strong sense of community and belonging. We have an active parent community and parent led committee. Friend Street Kindergarten is a sessional kindergarten offering a quality play-based learning program for 3 and 4 year olds run by qualified, highly experienced and dedicated teachers and educators. The spacious light-filled playroom and playground offers a range of play spaces. There is room to run, ride and play. There are sheltered areas designed for quiet time or role playing games with a friend. Natural play spaces such as the dry creek bed, gardens, mud kitchen and sandpit encourage interactions and discussions about sustainability. Specialist Music, P.E. and Yoga sessions build the children’s physical, emotional and social skills. Friend Street Kindergarten is committed to upholding Victoria’s Child Safe Standards. This is reflected in the kindergarten’s policies, procedures and programs.
Qualifications & experience
- Qualifications Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) recognised by ACECQA Experience in a sessional kindergarten preferred Hold current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration First aid training qualification, anaphylaxis and emergency asthma management training

Tasks & responsibilities
- We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Childhood teacher for our 3 year old group who will lead a high quality educational program in a play based environment.
- The successful applicant will have the knowledge to work across the five learning outcomes with a current understanding of early childhood development.
- This is a 12 month maternity Mondays and Fridays from 9-3 with 11 hours contact and 5.5 hours non contact across the week (2 - 30 min unpaid lunch breaks as per VECTEA). Additional paid allowances include meetings such as staff, quality improvement and organisational set up days.
- You will be part of a team which operates in a professional manner at all times and are committed to putting the development and education of children first.
- You will meet the requirements of DET Kindergarten Guide, the Education and Care Services National Law Act, the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the policies and procedures of the service.
- This position will commence at the end of Term 2 2024. Ideally, a handover period with our current 3 year old teacher will occur prior to the end of Term 2.
- All staff must commit to a culture that supports Child Safe Standards and adheres to our Code of Conduct. This includes supporting vulnerable children, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from diverse backgrounds as well as children with a disability.
- About you: Excellent verbal communication skills when engaging with children and families whilst maintaining and promoting a strong sense of community and relationships.
- A focus on teamwork in the 3 year old group, staff and the committee. An ability to assist in developing, documenting and implementing high quality, developmentally appropriate educational programs. The ability to plan, work and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
