Job description

Treasury is looking for an Executive Level 2, to fill the role of Director, Employment Relations who can lead people through a period of transformation (employment and systems). The teams provide contemporary Employment Relations and payroll services.

About the Employment Relations Team

To ensure that Treasury can respond to a complex economic environment, with an expanded role in delivering on Government priorities, it is critical that the right employment policies, practices, and frameworks are in place for the department to operate at an elevated level of performance and employees are remunerated efficiently and effectively.

The Director, Employment Relations, leads two small teams who play a key role in the delivery of strategic and operational outcomes as they relate to all aspects of people policies, practices, processes, and remuneration. The Director manages the operation of Treasury’s enterprise agreement and oversees Treasury’s compliance with all applicable employment law in the APS context.

About the Role

As Director, you will work as part of a highly motivated leadership team delivering contemporary HR practices and processes to enable high quality and timely outcomes for the Department.

You will be committed to developing your team’s knowledge and understanding of Treasury and the whole of government employment agenda. You will be able to translate these objectives into tangible outcomes and anticipate priorities to develop long term plans for your teams.

The key skills and experience for the role include a demonstrated ability to:

  • operate autonomously and in a self-directed manner, and prioritise and triage issues in an effective and efficient way;
  • build and sustain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • coach and develop others to ensure strategic value-add services are provided for stakeholders;
  • actively contribute to the leadership and culture of the People and Organisational Branch as well as the broader Corporate Division.

Highly Desirable Qualifications / Experience

  • Qualifications or certifications in Human Resources Management, industrial relations, law or similar.
  • At least five years’ experience in Human Resources leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in design, development, delivery, implementation and evaluation of HR strategies, policies, systems and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and communication.
