Job description

The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cadetship position has been developed to provide the cadet with pre‐graduation professional experience while undertaking undergraduate studies in Allied Health. The Cadet position reflects a collaborative relationship between Indigenous candidates and Mercy Health.

The role of the Aboriginal and/orTorres Strait Islander Allied Health Cadet is to provide support to the relevant Allied Health discipline team in the provision of providing quality patient care. The Cadet is required to work under the direction and supervision of an Allied Health Professional at all times, within their level of education and under clearly defined role parameters.

  • Fixed Term with a required minimum of the equivalent of eight weeks Full Time (40 shifts over 12 months)
  • Cadetship may be undertaken at either campus Mercy Hospital for Women or Werribee Mercy Hospital 
  • To provide patient‐centered, family oriented, evidence based care within an inter‐professional team environment to achieve the best possible outcomes for their patients
  • To provide care and support as delegated relating to patients’ activities of daily living, ensuring that patients’ personal needs and comforts are maintained
  • To assist in providing a safe patient environment and additional supervision ensuring patient safety
  • Provide general support for the health care team, ensuring effective and efficient care delivery

ABOUT YOU:

  • Currently enrolled full time in Bachelor degree or Masters level entry degree in an Allied Health discipline
  • Must have progressed beyond the first year of their studies, and be maintaining a pass grade in all subjects.
  • You identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander

 WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Candidates are required to meet the position and qualification requirements.
  • Provide a current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check (Mercy Health may conduct additional background checks subject to current legislation).
  • Proof of vaccination status consistent with public health orders and with Mercy Health’s policy (includes but is not limited to COVID-19 and seasonal influenza vaccination compliance requirement).
