An opportunity has become available to join our Mootang Tairimi Outreach Service on a Permanent Full Time assignment. The Aboriginal Health Worker will contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of Mootang Tarimi services and the Aboriginal Health Unit’s Aboriginal Health Programs for improving the health outcomes for the Aboriginal community of NBMLHD. This will include strategies aligned to access, partnership integration and cultural safety, ensuring the provision of a culturally responsive service that is delivered where and when needed.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
Selection Criteria to be Addressed: * This is an Aboriginal identified position. Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District considers that being of Aboriginal descent is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
- Hold or aspire to hold a minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care and able to demonstrate relevant experience
- Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and history.
- Knowledge and understanding of the health issues affecting Aboriginal People and their families, and the services available to them in our District.
- Ability to engage the Aboriginal community and build trust to increase service utilisation, uptake of healthy behaviours and improve health outcomes.
- Willingness to develop knowledge and skills in chronic disease, integrated care and healthy behaviour modification.
- Willingness and ability to develop understanding and commitment to service quality improvement principles.
- Current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
