About the role
Now is your chance to shape the future of Mental Health and wellbeing in Victoria! Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals are an important part of Victoria’s reformed Mental Health and wellbeing system. The Victorian Government has committed to establishing 50 Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals, with 2 of these being established in Bairnsdale and Orbost. Working together, GLCH, Wellways and Latrobe Regional Health will provide a range of support and therapies specific to what the community needs, whenever and wherever they are needed.
The Aboriginal Health Worker, will establish relationships, often working with hard to reach community members and hidden cohorts who are either referred or unable to access services via the central hub. You will identify and facilitate opportunities that promote the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal community, including carers and support workers where applicable. You will establish links with the Aboriginal community and provide clients with support and referral pathways with a broad range of health, social and community services that people may need to assist in their recovery.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum Certificate IV in a Social Work, Counselling, Mental Health or related discipline. Degree qualifications in applicable disciplines highly desirable.
- Demonstrated skill in establishing, empowering and supportive partnerships within Aboriginal communities and a broad range of services in the community.
- Thorough understanding of Mental Health recovery and evidence based, best practice supports that enable people to sustain their social and emotional wellbeing enhance their own wellbeing and identity.
