Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer
Awabakal Country - John Hunter Hospital

Where you'll be working:
The John Hunter Hospital AHLOs work closely with the John Hunter Children's Hospital AHLOs and the Palliative Care Aboriginal Health Workers. The office space is located within the Social Work Department and Social Workers also provide support and collaborative working relationships.
About the role:
- You will provide cultural support to patients and their families and be a resource where men’s business is particularly identified
- You will be involved with patient advocacy, referring patients back to community-based supports following discharge, and helping patients access resources to maintain their best health outcomes
- You will have access to yarning sessions and cultural mentoring being established at the John Hunter Hospital, as well as support from the other AHLOs working on those days
- You can participate in the John Hunter Hospital Close the Gap Committee and the HNELHD AHLO Network meetings
- You will receive regular support from the Manager of Social Work
- You will work in partnership with a female AHLO
- Additional shifts are often available to help cover the leave of colleagues
Requirements:
- Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works
- Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability to travel as required
