These, together with engagement of Aboriginal Elders, Aboriginal communities, and the preservation of cultural wisdom and data sovereignty, ensures Ngangk Yira is championing meaningful, co-designed research for the health and social equity of Aboriginal people, families, and communities.
The Role
The Aboriginal Research Officer works as a member of the multidisciplinary research team to support the implementation of The NHMRC, Mums and Bubs Deadly Diets Project. The position involves research and projects tasks, with a possibility to increase the hours at a later date, and is suitable for someone who is able to prioritise workloads in a dynamic research environment while maintaining attention to detail.
The successful candidate will coordinate local-level engagement, communication and relationships with Aboriginal community groups and organisations to support staff involved in the project; and will be responsible for organising and facilitating focus groups, interviews, and workshops. Further key responsibilities include:
Contributing to the maintenance of culturally safe research practice, using lived experience and cultural knowledge, and the Ngangk Yira values to support the integrity of research process.
Undertake administrative duties such as agenda preparation and minute/note taking, drafting and distribution for all project meetings.
Prioritise, problem solve and escalate unresolved or complex issues as necessary to the Director, Coolamon.
Be a point of contact for project investigators and recruitment sites.
Maintain ethics and funding agreement reporting database for the WA implementation, draft ethics and progress reports, and assist with the preparation and submission of new ethics and/or grant applications.
What you’ll bring to this role
Relevant experience and/or education/training.
Demonstrated strong connections to Aboriginal community/people/culture.
Experience of working in a service/project/program position that had responsibilities of managing and undertaking work in a timely way and being a responsible and reliable team member.
Ability to support culturally safe workplace experiences through contributions to the planning and processes of the research.
Ability to engage with Aboriginal people as research participants and conduct culturally safe interviews as part of data collection of the project.
Current Working with Children Check
Current and valid C-A Class Driver’s License
