About the role

The Academic Director provides leadership in the efficient, effective and equitable operations of Western Sydney University International College’s (WSUIC) pathway courses and programs. This incorporates responsibilities for development and implementation of a quality learning and teaching framework, program development and accreditation, management of resources and provision of academic services that enrich the student experience. The role contributes to academic governance at the College, particularly the WSUIC Academic Board and its subcommittees.

The person we seek will bring the following skills and experience to this role:

  • PhD in a discipline relevant to one of those offered by the College/Campus.
  • Sound knowledge of TEQSA regulations.
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership and management within a higher education environment.
  • High operational aptitude with the ability to build strong, sustainable academic teams, manage resources within a budget and coordinate a broad range of academic functions.
  • Successful track record in fostering and implementing change.
  • Substantial experience in curriculum development, including the management and evaluation of learning and teaching effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective learning and teaching including the ability to develop scholarly, innovative and flexible approaches to teaching and the facilitation of learning.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire students and staff.
  • Proven success in working collaboratively and an ability to build highly productive relationships across a range of internal and external partners.
  • Support the Academic Board and its subcommittees in ensuring effective academic governance and quality assurance.
  • Foster excellence in learning and teaching, including the development of innovative and flexible approaches which support the diversity of students within the College.
  • Provide leadership and effective management in the areas of student academic support and engagement, and student retention.
  • Undertake academic staff planning and management.
  • Lead and undertake detailed data analysis related to student academic performance metrics and developing effective strategies to address any areas that require improvement.
  • Excellent written communication skills, to the standard required to report in to an Academic Board.
