Ruah is launching the inaugural Access and Inclusion project that will be focusing on building our ability to communicate with people in our community living with Intellectual and Cognitive disability. The Access and Communication Project Officer is a 1 year fixed term contract, working full time with highly vulnerable clients in Housing and Homelessness, Family and Domestic Violence and Mental Health. These clients often present living with disability or with complex communication needs that are often missed or simply not understood.
About the role
Imagine if you couldn’t tell someone who you are; how you are, what you needed or even remember your name. Unfortunately, that’s a reality for a huge cohort of Ruah’s clients, and for us at Ruah, we want to try and change that. The Access and Inclusion Project Officer will:Work with Ruah Clients presenting with intellectual and cognitive disability (diagnosed or undiagnosed) to identify, adapt or design tools to provide a quality and inclusive service to the most vulnerable in Housing and Homelessness and Family and Domestic Violence and Mental Health.
Work alongside Ruah Staff to adapt or design training and training tools for the organisation to enable staff to provide successful communication strategies allowing to coordinate and provide inclusive services to the most vulnerable in Housing and Homelessness and Family and Domestic Violence and Mental Health. Work closely with the Disability Navigator to develop partnership and referral/pathways to services, facilitate access to aids, support, and equipment. Engage with the Graduate Evaluation Officer to identify data collection and participate in the evaluation and divulgation of findings.
Work with the Disability Navigator to build a toolkit accessible for other organisations to utilise About you
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:Relevant qualifications in a related discipline at degree, diploma or certificate level or demonstrated work experience at the level Substantial experience working with people with intellectual or cognitive disability Substantial knowledge of organisation in the disability sector Substantial experience in supporting and mentoring people Ability to design and deliver training Demonstrated understanding and/or experience of complex issues facing people who experience chaotic life circumstances such as homelessness, AOD use, family & domestic violence and mental health issues Demonstrated commitment to the principles of social justice and the inclusion of people with disabilities within the community Ability to trial new practice and adapt quickly to changes Ability to develop and maintain network of organisation Skills in reflective practice and highly developed report writing using analytical reasoning are highly desirable.
