With alignment to the organisation’s commitment to sustainable asset management, we are looking to appoint an Accountant within Mackay Regional Council’s Financial Services team with mentoring and career growth opportunities.
The Asset Accounting Function is critical to manage the financial responsibilities around Council’s assets. This includes providing asset accounting advice and reporting that supports effective asset management, including informing the long-term financial forecast.
The team is responsible for the maintenance of key financial data within Council’s asset register and ensuring the assets values are reported in accordance with accounting standards, legislative requirements and council policies.
The team liaises with asset owners, external valuers and asset management to ensure the detailed reviews of infrastructure asset unit rates, stocktakes, depreciation rates and useful lives occur. The team compile supporting review documentation to meet external audit requirements, permit peer review and to communicate complex matters between non-financial stakeholders.
The team contribute to the development and maintenance of asset management and other related policies and procedures, through provision of advice, analysis and recommendations.
Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor degree qualification in Business, Finance, Commerce or Accounting.
- Sound level of knowledge, application and ability to interpret accounting standards and legislation.
- Sound computer application skills in Word and Excel.
- Eligibility for membership to CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand will be highly regarded

- Base Salary range $82,690 - $90,623 + applicable allowances (the level offered will be determined on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience)
