Who are we?
Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.
We work to address the social determinants of health including the broader issues that affect our people's health, through evidence-based research and public advocacy. We also work to empower individuals, families and communities to optimise their health.
About the role
To facilitate the delivery of acute care and emergency management of clients presenting to clinics within Danila Dilba Health Services, by providing high quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate clinical care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients of the greater Darwin Area.
Responsibilities:
- Provide best practice, evidence based acute care including emergency care according to CARPA guidelines,
- Maintain clinic emergency room to Danila Dilba Health Service and AGPAL standards.
- Collaboration with members of the DDHS multidisciplinary team and external services to facilitate care and follow up of clients to support optimal health outcomes, including recalls where required.
- Assist GP's and other medical staff with procedures/office tests including but not limited to ECG, Spirometry etc
- Screen patients, attend health check and assist in the provision of chronic care as required.
- Management of acute and chronic, simple and complex wounds.
- Participate in work partnership agreements.
- Be responsible for your professional development by attending relevant workshops and in-services trainings and self-auditing to maintain professional development (CPD) as required.
- Ensure all interactions with clients and staff show appropriate responses to their needs and demonstrate the application of DDHS' code of conduct.
- Conduct all activities in a manner consistent with national health accreditation standards, DDHS Occupational (Work) Health and Safety Policy and procedures
- Implement and follow the DDHS incident and complaint investigation policies to ensure feedback drives service delivery improvements.
- Ensure all documentation, records management and the health information system database are maintained and completed in accordance with established standards, policies and protocols to ensure continuity of care.

To be successful you will need:
- Current registration as a Nurse with AHPRA;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in acute and/or emergency care;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in cannulation and venepuncture;
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution with people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds;
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history and knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples;
- Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team, with strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, manage and prioritise tasks;
- Demonstrated high level computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel (or similar) as well as the ability to use clinical practice software;
- Demonstrated high standard of written skills in the preparation of detailed reports, general correspondence and documentations with an understanding of confidentiality.

Employment with DDHS is subject to a police check, a current NT working with children's card, CPR certificate, and full vaccination against COVID-19, or an exemption as listed on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
