Job description

About SAGE

SAGE is Australasia’s leading advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the education and research sector. We’re the guide that institutions turn to when they want to create a vibrant workplace where everyone can thrive.

SAGE’s world-respected Athena Swan accreditation program drives participants’ EDI evolution. Through an evidence-based and impact-focussed framework, each institution develops a uniquely customised approach to achieve systemic, structural and cultural change, measured against international benchmarks. Throughout that journey, we support them with advice, tools and dynamic communities of practice to assist them when they need it.

As a valued adviser to government and other key decision-makers, SAGE also gives its participants a seat at the table to influence external policies that impact their EDI goals.

About the Role

We are looking for our newest team member to take on the role of Advisor: Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Building and make it their own! The role is responsible for supporting SAGE subscribers to advance equity, diversity and inclusion in their organisations.

You will provide subscribers from the higher education and research sector with support and advice as they progress through the SAGE Athena Swan accreditation pathway. You will co-ordinate community of practice activities, and share good practice in equity, diversity and inclusion through established SAGE communication channels. How you do this is up to you - there is plenty of opportunity to be creative and demonstrate your initiative in this role.

Accountabilities
  • Proactively support SAGE subscribers through the SAGE Athena Swan accreditation program, for example by providing individualised advice, resolving issues, and co-facilitating workshops
  • Source, synthesise and communicate to subscribers current and emerging good practice in equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Co-ordinate and support SAGE communities of practice to enable peer support and the sharing of good practice across SAGE subscriber organisations
  • Support the development of SAGE Athena Swan pathway resources and guidance materials
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of SAGE events
  • Undertake other duties as required
Knowledge, experience and capabilities required to perform this role effectively
  • Knowledge and understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion issues in the workplace, particularly in the Australian higher education and research sector, including awareness of current trends, issues, evidence and policy
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders, and effectively cultivate and maintain inclusive stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to develop engaging resources that effectively interpret and summarise relevant research, evidence and literature in an accessible manner
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn to use other software and applications. Experience with Mailchimp and Canva would be valuable.
Terms of appointment

Salary package ($82,000-92,000 including 11.5% superannuation contribution) commensurate with expertise and experience.

The location and working hours are flexible. SAGE employees work from home and come together to meet in person regularly. The role is available on a full-time or part-time basis.

How we work

SAGE is committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity and the provision of a safe and healthy work environment. We value our staff and encourage our employees to be adaptable and collaborative. Our staff are key to our success.

We offer:

  • a culture that values innovation and is committed to achieving results
  • flexible working arrangements, including remote working arrangements (work from home)
  • a commitment to continuous learning
How to apply

If this sounds like a great fit for you, please apply by providing:

  • your resume; and
  • a cover letter summarising how your skills and experience would be a good fit for the role (max 2 pages please)

People with diverse identities and lived experiences are strongly encouraged to apply. Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and people from marginalized groups tend to only apply when they meet all the criteria. If you think you could do this job, but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please apply or get in touch anyway. We'd love to hear from you.
