We strive to make a more carer-friendly community. Here, every role directly contributes to our mission—to support, connect and empower carers to maintain their caring role and personal wellbeing. When you join Carers ACT, you make a lasting difference in the lives of unpaid carers.

Join a team where you’re more than just an employee. At Carers ACT, you’re an integral part of a community dedicated to growth, learning and meaningful impact. Discover a career path that not only supports your professional development but also aligns with your passion to make a real difference in the world.

  • Carer-Friendly Workplace: We practice what we preach, providing a supportive environment for you to thrive.
  • Competitive Salary: Your skills and dedication are rewarded with a salary that respects and values your contribution.
  • Salary Packaging: Enhance your take-home pay through our accessible salary packaging options.
  • Wellbeing Leave: Benefit from an additional 3 days of wellbeing leave per year.
  • Employee Assistance Program: Comprehensive support for your mental and emotional health.

Your Impact in the Role

Your efforts will support our strategic initiatives, enhancing the quality of life for carers and the people they care for. This role is crucial, not just for its immediate tasks but for the lasting impact you will create in our community.

We are looking to evolve our service to offer a cottage respite model, where the person being cared for can stay overnight or for a few days, while the carer can have a break from their caring role. The service will operate on a part-time basis, supporting up to 4 overnight and 10 day program clients.

You will have an opportunity to be part of the design and development of this new and essential service in the Illawarra region and be part of a high performing team.

The position is part time (50 hours per fortnight) and is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of safe, high-quality and person-centred care. The position requires periodic travel to our central office in Canberra.

You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality care and support to our clients. You will supervise a small team of casual and/or agency support workers, providing them with guidance, feedback, and training. You will also liaise with clients, their families, and other stakeholders to ensure individual needs and preferences are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embed Carers ACT’s Clinical Governance Framework in all program designs and deliveries, ensuring safe, high quality and effective services for clients and their carers.
  • Engage with clients and their carers to conduct comprehensive intake and care planning processes, identifying and communicating the needs and goals of the participants to all staff.
  • Develop engaging and appropriate activity schedules for each program, using evidence-based activities to support people with dementia or who are frail and aging.
  • Coordinate all logistics of cottage and/or retreat settings, including sourcing suitable venues, completing risk assessments, stocking/coordinating food and consumables, and maintaining relationships with venues providers/landlords.
  • Manage a small team of causal and/or agency staff, providing training, rostering and daily supervision.
  • Complete all administrative tasks, including maintaining client records, managing bookings, contractual and management reporting and budget management

Who You Are

You will be an experienced Aged Care Supervisor who has self-motivation, innovation, organisation, and multi-tasking skills. You will work independently and collaboratively with a team and prioritise workloads effectively. In every interaction with our clients and carers you will ensure you and your team uphold Carers ACT’s values and standards of providing safe, high-quality and person-centred care. To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • A relevant qualification in Aged Care, allied health, or nursing, such as Certificate IV in Aging Support or equivalent. Previous qualifications and experience in allied health or nursing will be highly regarded.
  • Previous experience working in an Aged Care environment, such as social groups, day programs, respite care, or residential Aged Care
  • Sound knowledge of the Aged Care Quality Standards and how to apply them in your daily practice. • Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and databases.
  • A current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check
  • Up to date with COVID vaccination, with a minimum of 3 boosters required.
