Job description
The Aged and Disability Care Program assists frail aged and younger people with disabilities and their carers living in the Greater Darwin and Palmerston regions. They provide culturally appropriate services that are tailored to the requirements of our clients, to maintain and increase their independence and assist them to live as valued and participating members of the community. We have a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, however we do also provide our services to non-indigenous people.
Specifically, the program provides the following services:
Meals at home (provision of meals that are prepared and delivered to clients who are unable to prepare their own meals or maintain an adequate nutritional intake);
Centre-Based Activities (provide structured group activities designed to develop, maintain or support the capacity for independent living and social interaction which are conducted in a centre-based setting. It also includes outing and day trips conducted by the centre and providing some meals at the centre);
Transport (co-ordinate and/or provide individual transport services);
Social Support (provide assistance by a support worker, in the home or outside the home to access community facilities and services. This service aims to maintain a client’s community connection and fulfil the need for social interaction and wellbeing);
Personal Care (provide assistance with self-care, such as eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming and mobility);
Domestic Assistance (provide assistance with domestic chores, including assistance with cleaning, dishwashing, clothes washing and ironing, shopping and bill paying. May also include help with meal preparation).

Conditions of employment covered by the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2018. Option to salary package a maximum of $15,899 from your gross salary each year; 5 weeks pro rata annual leave per year; and 35 hours per week. Objective
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Team Leader will provide hands-on support and assistance to the program co-ordinators and support workers and assist in ensuring the program successfully achieves its objectives.
Skills and experience
Essential
Contribute to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the community Aged Care and Disability services complying with Quality Reporting and Industry Standards;
Provide support and supervision for support workers to ensure the successful delivery of client focussed CHSP, HCP and Disability services;
Assist the Program Manager with compliance with funding requirements relating to performance reporting;
Supervise and coordinate rosters, in consultation with the Case Manager, for support workers to provide a timely, effective service for clients;
Support the development of positive working relationships with staff, clients, their carers and service stakeholders through effective communication and team work;
Support the maintenance of required records, assist in formulating reports, and the implementation of the relevant policies and procedures for the effective delivery of programs;
Support and mentor Aged Care staff and keep up to date with program and legislated requirements;
Ensure program assets are managed and maintained to the highest standard;
Ensure effective communication regarding client health & wellbeing, including involvement and contribution to regular and consistent team meetings and handovers;
Advocacy;
Adhere to safe work practices and organisation and industry specific policies and procedures, including privacy and confidentiality requirements; and committing to being vaccinated for influenza annually.
Provide regular reports to the Program Manager as required;
Ensure an effective, efficient and courteous service is provided to all service users and the community;
Other position related duties as requested by the Program Manager; and
Maintain respect for Larrakia people and traditional country.
Key Selection Criteria:
5 years minimum demonstrated leadership experience in Aged and Disability Care Services
Relevant Aged & Disability qualification minimum Diploma in Community Services
A knowledge of Aboriginal culture and the issues affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory.
Proven experience in staff and team supervision, including excellent leadership qualities and the ability to develop and maintain the respect and loyalty of staff
Ability to manage multiple tasks and flexibility to adapt to operational demands and timelines
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current legislative requirements and reforms that relate to the Aged & Disability Industry, including quality assurance practices and quality improvement processes
Understanding and experience of cultural protocols, together with a willingness to work respectfully in accordance with Larrakia and other Indigenous groups & cultures
Sound decision making skills including an analytical approach to problem solving, crisis and risk management
Experience working with Indigenous people in the community with complex needs
Demonstrated interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively and produce confidential written reports of quality and relevance
Demonstrated computer skills competency, including Microsoft Office software (particularly Word, Excel and Outlook), online portal systems, experience with Sand Wai system and an ability to learn new software
To understand and demonstrate safe work practices and adhere to organisation policies and procedures
Current NT Driver’s License (C Class)
Desirable:
Identify as Indigenous
Understanding of cultural protocols, together with a willingness to work respectfully in accordance with Larrakia and other Indigenous culture
Ability to undertake professional supervision, as well as adhere to legislative frameworks, organisation policies, procedures and protocols
Management and conflict resolution skills – an ability to lead, motivate and engage staff from different professional backgrounds and resolve differences in a constructive and productive manner
Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
