Nippon Express is seeking an experienced Air Freight Supervisor to support the team in ensuring a complete customer service to its clients, identify potential efficiency gains and implement processes for continuous improvement and innovation.
Our SYD branch is a 5 Star Green office and warehouse space with a gym and contemporary open plan work design located across the road from 41.6-hectare Sydney Park.
Duties & responsibilities:
- Lead and support Air Freight team to ensure quality and accuracy of work, ongoing training and development, employee engagement and well-being.
- Help develop and maintain a cohesive working relationship with management and team members to ensure the efficient performance and profitability of the department.
- Working closely with Warehouse Department for all PMC/CONSOL ensuring full responsibilities of check-in’s, outturn report, damage (not limited to)
- Monitor operational performance of carriers and service deliverables, ensuring allotment optimisation
- Act as a point of escalation for any enquiries or issues within air import and export to streamline processes for maximum efficiency
- Complete reports via various databases to meet required deadlines
- Utilise different systems to make and process the supplier invoices in a timely manner. i.e. COMMPAY, CargoWise1 and liaising with accounting.
- All end-to-end operations and customer service tasks related to air export and import.
- Customer visits to develop handling volume and enhance customer satisfaction where required.
- Maintaining a positive, empathetic, proactive, and professional attitude toward customers at all times.
- Promptly acknowledge, action and proactively resolve all customers and overseas branch queries and complaints in a professional cooperative manner.
- Maintain achievement of KPIs of each customer.
- Ensure effective time management and help resolve complaints, cargo missing, cargo damage, urgent shipment and etc.
- Ensure all internal parties are informed with all information as per KPI or requirement i.e. Broker, Cartage, Customer Service, Removals, Clients through email and CW1, or where feasible in person and/or over the phone.
- Implement corrective action in response to any identified service failures.
- General administration tasks, e.g., supplier invoices/ payment data entry.
- Ensure sound understanding, awareness and knowledge of the requirements of the WHO - GDP (Good Distribution Practices), ISO and any other certification requirements.
Key Competencies and Skills:
The successful candidate will possess:
- Supervisory experience in a transportation, freight forwarding environment.
- Experience in leading and coaching small teams.
- Assume accountabilities for team members and tasks undertaken, coordinate and prioritise work functions.
- Detailed knowledge of international forwarding, Dangerous Goods handling (IATA DG diploma), Refrigerated goods and Temperature controlled goods, Firearms and explosives, and High Value Merchandise.
- Demonstrate a professional and pro-active approach with the ability to make decisions and solve problems.
- Ability to build strong customer relationships and maintain professional relationships with management and all departments.
- Demonstrate competent and professional communication with employees, management and customers.
- Excellent client negotiation and communication experience and skills.
- Be proactive within role and to offer suggestions to improve Department processes.
- Proficient in Cargowise1 system and Microsoft Office 365
