As part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the primary health care principles, Department policies and direction, legal requirements, and relevant professional competencies, the Allied Health Professional – Clinical Lead will provide:
- Leadership and direction in the strategic development and management of a comprehensive multidisciplinary Prisoner Mental Health Service.
- Effective management of specified human and physical resources.
- Leadership, direction and change management to facilitate the progression of the current Mental Health Service Strategic Plan through the implementation of the associated model of care, and relevant service policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Optimal clinical processes and individual client outcomes.
- Enhanced consumer and carer participation at all levels of the service.
The Role:
- Actively contribute to the Clinical Leadership and management of a multidisciplinary Prisoner Mental Health Service to ensure the provision of a high quality, comprehensive, specialist mental health service to the Tasmania prison population in accordance with the principles and goals and objectives specified in the Rethink 2020 A state plan for mental health in Tasmania 2020-2025, the associated model of care and relevant service policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Support the Director of Nursing by assuming a lead role in the oversight of designated clinical processes associated with the optimal operation of a Prisoner Mental Health Service, including intake, crisis response, interim support, assertive case management and general team coordination.
- Undertake the line and performance management of a designated group of staff within a specified community mental health team.
- Promote compliance with the complete and timely collection of clinical data and designated Key Activity and Performance Indicators to accurately reflect service performance.
- As a senior member of the Prisoner Mental Health Service, participate in the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of relevant policies and procedures, including ensuring the active

Position Features
- The position works within a variety of custodial / forensic environments and the occupant will have regular daily contact with persons within a custodial setting or forensic patients admitted to the Secure Forensic Mental Health Unit – the Wilfred Lopes Centre.
- The occupant will be required to adhere to all security practices and procedures within correctional centres and the Wilfred Lopes Centre.
Details of Appointment
Permanent full time day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

- Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.
Salary: $120,114 - $130,181 per annum. Our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- This position attracts a 6.5% correctional allowance
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum
- Please note that access to salaries beyond $126,845 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022
Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
- Registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; or
- Degree in Social Work giving eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers; or
- Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia
- Current Driver’s Licence

- A minimum of 3 years post graduate clinical experience in acute or a community mental health team.
