Alumni Experience Manager

  • Employment Type: Full time (35 hours per week)
  • Duration: 1-year parental leave cover
  • Remuneration: Level 9 $138,171 - $146,613 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading
  • Location:  Kensington, NSW (Hybrid Working)

Why Your Role Matters:

The Alumni Experience Manager will sit within the External Engagement (Faculties and Precincts) team which has been established to provide specific support for each UNSW Faculty and build the reputation of UNSW as a whole. The Alumni Experience team will work alongside central areas such as events, \ news & content, and internal communications, as well as the Faculty teams to build connections, community and networks of influence. This team is committed to ensuring a ‘OneUNSW’ approach is taken to developing strategy and implementing the appropriate quality standards.

The Alumni Experience Manager will work closely with the other Division of External Engagement Pillars to design and execute initiatives and programs to engage UNSW’s 340,000+ alumni and an innovative digital marketing communications strategy for the alumni community.

This role sits alongside the embedded Faculty External Engagement Managers and reports directly to the Director of External Engagement & Alumni Experience. The role has four direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Shape and implement the UNSW Alumni Engagement strategy in consultation with key University stakeholders and working closely with the Director of External Engagement & Alumni Experience.
  • Be the subject matter expert on Alumni policy, governance and overall planning for alumni and provide strategic counsel to the Director of External Engagement & Alumni Experience and Vice President External Engagement.
  • Lead and enable a team that effectively manages the coordination of alumni programs; on-boarding for new alumni and alumni enquiry management.
  • Oversee and ensure effective data management and reporting on alumni matters.
  • Leverage internal and external networks to assist in improving knowledge of best practice alumni engagement throughout the university.
  • Build and maintain highly effective working relationships with the centrally managed functions of Communications, Government Relations, Events, Operations and Development, ensuring support is provided to meet Faculty and Central needs as and when required.
  • Regularly consult with the Chief Development Officer and team regarding the development and implementation of alumni strategy.
  • Drive key community building alumni activities in Australia and Internationally, playing a hands-on role in developing and delivering activities that help mobilise stakeholders in support of the University’s core mission.
  • Lead and manage a small, hard-working, multi-disciplinary team of alumni relations professionals and advise on a university-wide approach to alumni relations. This may cover events, internal communications, stakeholder engagement support.
  • Assist on ad-hoc projects as required

Who You Are:

  • A relevant tertiary degree with extensive experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and execute alumni relations or external engagement plans to meet the priorities identified by the organisation, ideally in a university environment or comparable organisation.
  • Evidence of  successfully building an alumni community or improving an organisation’s profile via external engagement activities.
  • Strong political acumen, to deal with a wide range of complex and diverse set of needs and stakeholders.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Impeccable engagement and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and leading a team to achieve superior results.
  • Ability to work in a highly adaptable a consultative manner, working in a highly collaborative way to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and an ability to produce effective briefings and design effective PowerPoint presentations.
  • Extensive experience in managing and allocating resources including staff and operating budget.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and train team members, to establish priorities and manage competing deadlines for self and others
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and decision-making skills
