The Ambulatory Service at the Children’s Hospital Westmead is after an experienced and dynamic Clinical Nurse Specialist 2 (CNS2) to join their team. The successful CNS2 will be responsible for the clinical coordination of the Hospital in the Home service, Acute Review clinic and Turner Medical Day Stay.

Hospital in The Home (HITH) aims to provide home based healthcare services that deliver equal or better outcomes for patients who would otherwise be admitted as inpatients. Acute Review Clinic (ARC) has the overarching objective of admission and/or Emergency Department avoidance. The clinic forms part of the Ambulatory Model of Care and facilitates reviews, investigations and treatment for recently discharged patients, Acute management of chronic and complex patients and HiTH patients. Turner Medical day stay forms part of Ambulatory Services and is a unique combination of many specialities within the Medical Day Stay Unit. Together we provide specialist care to chronic and acutely unwell children 0-18 yrs. This includes haematology, immunology, metabolic, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, bone service and cardiology. The Medical Day Stay Unit primarily treats children who require acute review and /or treatment, ongoing regular treatment, oral sedation for procedures.

The successful CNS2 will be required to review referrals into the service (HiTH/ARC), work in collaboration with the Ambulatory Services CNS2 at SCH, work closely with the Turner medical day stay team leader, delegate tasks to facilitate timely and efficient admission to relevant service and promote Ambulatory Services as an alternative model of care.

Successful applicants may be required to attend home visits, a NSW drivers licence is a requirement for the role.

What you'll be doing

The Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 (CNS2) is an extended role within the scope of a Registered Nurse/Midwife  that provides safe, compassionate, person-centred care to patients and families of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network   
Acts as an appropriate and effective role model to promote culture and standards that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.   
Provides senior nursing clinical leadership in the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within a nursing unit, team or service.   
Provides advanced skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision making while working closely with managers and other senior clinicians.   
• Exercises extended autonomy of decision making;   
• Exercises professional knowledge and judgement in providing complex care requiring advanced clinical skills.   
• Undertakes  leadership in the development of nursing specialty clinical practice service delivery in the ward/service; or   
• Undertakes primary case management within a defined specialty involving both inpatient and community based services.   

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the relevant clinical area of their post-registration qualification.
  3. Demonstrated evidence of advanced clinical practice in the specialty area.
  4. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal and problem solving capabilities; able to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Strong commitment to contribute to own and team professional development and act as a resource person and to mentor others within the specialty where required.
  6. Demonstrated evidence of contribution to the development of clinical practice relevant to paediatrics.
  7. Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making capabilities and leadership in the development of nursing specialty clinical practice and service delivery.
  8. Demonstrated ability to exercise professional knowledge and judgment in providing complex care requirements of patients/clients in the specialty field.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
