The Self-Help Addiction Resource Centre (SHARC) is a community-based Lived Experience organisation with a unique approach to supporting people impacted by substance use. SHARC combines mutual self- help and social support with professional therapeutic approaches.

SHARC envisions a world where all people affected by the impact of addiction can proudly and openly seek help, help each other and demonstrate the living proof that recovery is possible.

Since its establishment in 1995, SHARC has lived its Mission Statement, helping to create transformation for countless individuals, families and communities impacted by addiction. It achieves this by:

·         Providing opportunities for individuals, families and communities affected by addiction and related problems to recover and achieve meaningful, satisfying and contributing lives.

·         Providing models of practice for family support, consumer participation and peer-based Recovery Support; and influence practice in the field of addiction and other related health domains.

SHARC’s programs include Recovery Support services for youth and adults, help for families affected by drug use problems, advocacy services for people who use drug treatment services and peer workforce development programs. We have earned a reputation as an innovative and successful service with a commitment to helping people to help themselves.

The organisation has experienced substantial growth over the last five years, coupled with a recent change in CEO and additions to the leadership team.  These changes will support and drive ongoing enhancements in administration.

Our programs provide access to safe drug-free housing and a community of people seeking to change their lives and help each other.

Peer support underpins our residential peer programs where residents are inspired and supported by each other, people who understand their struggles and have found ways to manage common challenges.Position Objective

This position involves working as part of a small dynamic team, providing drug and alcohol Recovery Support services for people aged 16 to 25 and assisting clients of the other SHARC supported accommodation services when required.

RSS support and care is provided within a peer support framework where our clients live independently within safe, drug-free, home-like environments.

 Position Responsibilities

·         actively participate in a series of formal learning and development opportunities for the purpose of upskilling and maintaining employment in the AOD sector.

·         participate in the development, delivery and evaluation of an effective and credible Recovery Support service.

·         develop, adapt and apply mutual self-help and peer support therapeutic approaches for a broad range of drug related problems.

·         become familiar with, and adhere to, SHARC organisational policies and procedures.

·         provide a range of services to young people with co occurring complexities related to their use of alcohol and other drugs including:

·         comprehensive assessment of young people who may have a range of complex needs

·         provision of induction and support for people as they transition into the service

·         management of a case load to assist key-clients to identify their needs and goals, develop recovery plans and review these plans, and offer assistance throughout their engagement with the service

·         provision of therapeutic interventions for young people and their families

·         facilitation of groups and other activities

·         participation in bi-annual wilderness camps co-managed with The Outdoor Experience

·         entering accurate client-related data into relevant data bases and participation in the analysis of such data

·         development of exit plans and provision of assistance to clients going through these processes

·         provide information and referral information to people when appropriate

·         maintain records of activities undertaken in this position and write reports as requested

·         adhere to procedures relating to direct care services, data collection and financial management

·         establish and maintain appropriate consultative networks and other collaborative links with key stakeholders and external agencies such as transitional housing managers, social security services and other service providers on matters of coordinating services for RSS residents

·         attend and participate in appropriate program and organisational working groups/committees

·         participate in the overall development of RSS and the other SHARC supported accommodation services
