Apprentice Fitter/Machinist
•    Apprentice APS (Trade)
•    Ongoing Full-Time

The Apprentice Fitter/Machinist will work within themanufacturing sections of the Mint, undertaking hands-on work toproduce tools and parts using modern and traditional machinery.They will install, adjust and fit parts and assemblies, and serviceand repair machinery, to deliver quality coin products to theMint’s customers.

The Mint is committed to developing and sustaining our in-housetrades and craft capabilities, which are critical to our success asa world-class manufacturer of circulating and collectible coins.Apprentices play a crucial role in manufacturing operations as thenext generation of qualified tradespeople. The Mint is looking formotivated apprentices who are willing to learn new skills, and growwithin the organisation at the completion of theirapprenticeship.

The Apprentice Fitter/Machinist will be provided with acombination of on-the-job and off-the-job training, be supervisedand supported by qualified tradespeople, and work in a rotationacross the various manufacturing and support teams within the Mintincluding:

•    Toolroom: where they willlearn how to produce high-quality master tools, production dies andmachined parts using a range of manual and Computer NumericalControl (CNC) machines.
•    Circulating and Proof Coining:where they will learn how to setup, adjust and maintain variouspieces of plant and equipment.
•    Facilities Maintenance: wherethey will learn how to conduct preventative and breakdownmaintenance on a range of plant equipment.

The Apprentice Fitter/Machinist will complete one of thefollowing courses through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)including Group Training Organisations:

•    Certificate III in Engineering –Mechanical Trade
•    Certificate III in Engineering –Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining).

All study and travel expenses including course fees,transportation, accommodation, and travel allowance will beprovided while the Apprentice Fitter/Machinist is attendingtraining at a RTO. The Apprentice Fitter/Machinist will be providedwith a uniform and all necessary tools and Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPE) required to undertake training safely.

Details of training, including block release arrangements, mayvary depending on the needs of the Mint and are finalised as partof the training agreement.

An enhanced remuneration package may be provided to theApprentice Fitter/Machinist dependent on their skills, abilitiesand progression through their apprenticeship.

The successful applicant will be required to workfull-time consisting of a combination of onsite and offsitetraining.

The duties of this position include:
1.    Reading and interpreting technical drawings,planning manufacturing operations and setting up machinery.
2.    Using hand and power tools to shape metal, and sawsto cut stock material.
3.    Manual and CNC machining, including milling,turning, grinding, boring, planing, shaping, slotting, drilling,and wire cutting.
4.    Processing Computer Aided Design (CAD) files, andmanufacturing master tools using laser and mechanicalengravers.
5.    Undertaking trade-related production work.
6.    Learning minting craft skills related to thefitting/machining trade.
7.    Performing measurements for dimensional andgeometric tolerances using a range of precision measuringtools.
8.    Undertaking heat treatment processes includingannealing and hardening, as well as hardness testing.
9.    Undertaking general fitting and mechanical trade,and building maintenance activities to ensure the quality andtimely operation of business requirements.
10.  Conducting regular maintenance activities on a range ofmachinery.
11.  Processing work orders in an Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) system.
12.  Working safely and complying with safety requirements,including the use of PPE.
13.  General administrative activities, including the use ofthe Microsoft Office suite of programs.
