Under general direction, the Security Officer (SO) is responsible for undertaking a wide range of civilian and military protective security activities and tasks. The SO works within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Departmental Instructions and other guidelines. Some of the key tasks include:
- Supervise the day to day operation of the DFSS Security Section
- Perform the role and tasks of COMSO
- Manage the Maintenance of appropriate access control measures for DFSS including the management, training and data integrity of systems across all buildings
- Provide sound security advice on security governance requirements
The Defence Force School of Signals (DFSS) is an Army sponsored tri-service unit and is responsible for the delivery of Signals training to the Australian Defence Force and other elements of the Australian Department of Defence including the Chief Information Officer Group and Intelligence and Security Group.The Unit is situated across 8 Defence bases around Australia with a workforce comprising 300 plus members of the Navy, Army and Air Force, the Australian Public Service and independent contractors. In any given year, approximately 5000 students graduate from courses offered by DFSS. The DFSS Security Team is situated within DFSS headquarters and is responsible for ensuring staff and students are appropriately cleared for training, in a timely manner, with training provided in suitable facilities and resources to ensure DFSS aligns with security best practice and is postured to deliver first class training.Our Ideal Candidate
Ideally our successful candidate would be an experienced security professional with in-depth knowledge of Government Security requirements and frameworks.The successful candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- A background and experience within the defence security environment
- Experience in managing small teams
- The ability to interpret and provide advice and guidance on security policy
- Be able to provide briefings on security to small and large groups
- An Australian citizen and hold a minimum NV2 security clearance (with ability to obtain PV)
- Previous security training and experience
