The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray–Darling Basin’s water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.
The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray–Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 40 First Nations. The Position
The River Management Portfolio of the MDBA is seeking an APS6 Senior Project Officer to support delivery of the Enhanced Environmental Water Delivery (EEWD) project, on behalf of the proponent states (Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia).
As a Senior Project Officer in the EEWD Implementation team you will undertake a mix of technical analysis, policy improvement and project management tasks. This will include leading work that contributes directly to the overall EEWD project and building relationships across staff within the MDBA and the Basin state and Commonwealth agencies involved in the project (about 40 positions across agencies).

Your key responsibilities in this role are to
- Support and deliver the development of new tools, operational practices and policies to realise the objectives and outcomes of the Enhanced Environmental Water delivery project.
- Undertake a mix of technical analysis, policy improvement and project management work.
- Liaise closely with other work areas across the MDBA and with jurisdictional partner agencies.
- Build effective working relationships with environmental water holders, river managers and river modellers to ensure new river management policies, tools and processes are designed with end-users in mind, are fit for purpose and will be adopted successfully.
- Represent and explain the views of the agency at cross-agency meetings and other forums.
