APS5 Policy Officer
 Excellent communications skills with the ability to understand the audience and tailor communication style and
message accordingly.
 Strategic thinking, including understanding the work environment and how political, social, environmental,
cultural and other factors may impact their work.
 The ability to communicate with influence including listening actively and articulating both written and verbal
messages.
 Demonstrated ability to build effective professional networks and liaise with internal stakeholders.
 An ability to adapt to change, including dealing positively with uncertainty.
 An ability to contribute to high performing teams.
 A commitment to learn new skills.
APS6 Policy Officer
 Identifies broader factors, trends and influences that may impact on the team's work objectives. Considers the
ramifications of issues and longer-term impact of own work and work area.
 Proactively offers assistance for a mutually beneficial relationship.
 Leadership skills and willingness to mentor junior staff.
 Advanced communication skills, including experience drafting high quality documentation for a Senior executive
and Ministerial audience
