For over 40 years Chandler Macleod’s recruitment business has connected leading-edge projects and employers with outstanding business professionals.Our client is seeking to engage AP6 & EL1 Senior Regulatory Officers.Location: Canberra, ACTContract Length: Until 30/06/2024, with option to extend for a further period up to 4 monthsEligibility/Security Requirement: The successful applicant will be required to hold, or be able to obtain, a Baseline security clearance.ScopeDuties at the APS Level 6, Senior Regulatory Officer will include, but not limited to the following:

  • Assess and review applications to ensure compliance with legislative criteria using established procedures and systems.
  • Educate and support scheme participants to develop understanding of and compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Develop and manage key strategic relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to promote the Agency business objectives, manage change and resolve conflicts.
  • Contribute positively to risk management, strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Apply work knowledge, precedent and established legislation to support the development of policy, procedures, guidelines and technical improvements that can be applied to situations involving considerable complexity.
  • Supervision and development of staff by sharing knowledge and experience.
  • Developing guidance and training materials for internal and external use.
  • Applying professional judgement to perform and communicate robust regulatory decisions, evaluating ambiguous and incomplete information, factoring in risks and being sensitive to context.
Duties at the Executive Level 1, Assistant Manager will include, but not limited to the following:
  • Manage and develop a sub team of project assessors to ensure high levels of professionalism and integrity while meeting required assessment timeframes. This includes conducting assessments and reviews when needed as well as tracking progress of projects.
  • Exercising delegations in relation to project assessment and expenditure as appropriate.
  • Take a leadership role in managing situations involving a high level of complexity and sensitivity which require considerable legislative interpretation and analysis while adhering to procedure and guidelines.
  • Communicate and make decisions that are based on professional judgement, evaluating risks and in the context of a complex and changing environment.
  • Research, review, provide input to and evaluate project methodologies, systems, tools and programs to achieve agency objectives and address opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Manage procurement and contract processes.
  • Develop and oversee the development of communication and education materials.
  • Contribute to the Agency’s IT and Online Services development agenda by providing input and transitioning to relevant system changes.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management activities for a project or program.
  • Develop productive and professional relationships with key stakeholders.
Qualifications/Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in decision making under complex regulatory legislation is essential.
  • Experience in managing a team in a technical assessment environment is essential.
  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to quickly understand technical/scientific legislation similar to ACCU Scheme methodologies is highly desirable.
  • Experience in using mapping tools and other data sources to support legislative decision making is desirable.
  • Experience in engaging with IT system improvement and development to support regulatory decision making is desirable.
  • Experience using geospatial data software, such as ArcGIS Pro is desirable.
  • Qualifications in environmental science, forestry, natural resource management or ecology is desirable.
