We’re calling for Expressions of Interest in a full time Senior Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander Regulatory Officer (Registrations). This identified role will provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander registered practitioners across 16 health professions.
Ahpra and the National Scheme, in partnership with the National Scheme's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Group (the Strategy Group) have committed to eliminating racism within healthcare in Australia by ensuring registered health practitioners are practising their profession in a culturally safe way.
About the role
You will be responsible for the continued development of a culturally safe registration service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander registered practitioners across 15 health professions. Increasing Indigenous health workforce participation is a key deliverable for Ahpra and registering to practice is a critical interface to achieving that.
Reporting to the National Manager Registration (Performance, Quality and Experience), you will be positioned with the National Registration Team and support the implementation of the Strategy and work across the registration function to embed cultural safety into the business and operations of Ahpra and in the healthcare system.
You will work with at least one Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander Regulatory Officer (Registration) to provide specialist registration advice and achieve project deliverables. Both Identified Regulatory Officer (Registration) roles will collaborate and receive support from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Unit (HSU). The HSU is responsible for leading the implementation of the Strategy, the RAP, and working with the Strategy Group.
You will lead activities to continue to embed cultural safety expertise in:
- registration policies;
- processes and communications;
- establishing and overseeing a liaison function for applicants and registrants;
- establishing relationships with employers, professional associations, and other key stakeholders in the health sector in support of critical health workforce needs that affect
Working in collaboration with an extensive range of key internal and external stakeholders, success in this role derives from:

- your strong connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, communities and culture and working, knowing, and living as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Key accountabilities
- Provide advice that guides the registration function and other stakeholders:
- on culturally safe registration case management and liaison within Ahpra and the Boards, and
- the continued development of culturally safe registration policies, processes, practices, and resources including Customer Service Team (CST)
- on establishing, maintaining, and analysing registration data and reporting that informs operational decisions and priorities
- on a meaningful communication/engagement strategy throughout the registration life-
- Establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander registrant engagement service/caseload that supports students, applicants, and registrants through registration and renewal processes and/or issues.
- Develop and provide consistent, specialist, and high-quality leadership and support on cultural safety matters within the registration function, as required.
- Assess applications in accordance with legislation and registration standards and maintain/oversee a caseload, as required.
- Assist in supporting the implementation of the National Scheme's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Cultural Safety Strategy 2020-2025 and providing clear and positive engagement alongside the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Unit, stakeholders, and contributors.
- Develop and maintain collaborative and engaging trusted working relationships with key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health sector stakeholders, particularly on specific registration matters or critical workforce needs/ shortages in community.
- Develop policy briefs, consultation papers, memoranda, agenda papers to support a cross- profession approach.
- Professionally resolve stakeholder conflict with tact and diplomacy.
- Proactively identify risks to the program of work, develop and recommend means of mitigation.
- People Management: Achieving organisational goals by effectively managing the team's and team members' workplace performance meaning to:
- Enhance and encourage team members' potential through development and coaching activities;
- Take actions to close identified performance gaps in a timely and effective manner;
- Comply with Ahpra performance objectives setting, review and development processes;
- Motivate team member's behaviour by providing clear direction and recognition of achievements as well as personally modelling Ahpra standards.
