Aquaculture Technician | Hatchery Farm hand

Murray Cod Australia (MCA) produces premium, pond-grown Murray cod. Based in the Riverina, New South Wales, our business has a vertically-integrated approach for breeding, growing and supplying what is Australia's best-tasting freshwater fish.  We grow high-quality Murray cod in open ponds (or dams) on the Murray-Darling Basin river system – the fish’s native environment. We believe these ideal conditions make our Murray cod the best on the market.  By using a land-based aquaculture model, MCA has one of the lowest environmental footprints in the industry.

An Aquaculture Technician role has become available at our Ishwinroo hatchery, located 10km from Pomona near Wentworth, NSW.  This is a full time permanent position.

The role will assist in the day-to-day operations on a hatchery/nursery aquaculture farm.  The role will offer significant opportunity for an individual who is seeking to advance their career with a rapidly growing business. 

Key attributes that we will be assessing candidate suitability against include –

• Previous operational experience in an intensive agricultural industry would be an advantage but not necessary.
• Organised and professional approach to work
• Reasonable level of computer skills and ability to enter daily data (on the job training can be provided) 
• Able to follow direct instruction and retain information for specific jobs
• Able to work both in a team and on your own in various tasks
• Need to be able to work in a high-pressure environment and perform multiple tasks at once
• Able to use tools and help with maintenance and construction of various jobs on site
• A “can do” attitude with an ability to quickly solve problems
• Willing to work some weekends and extra hours during hatchery season (to be balanced out during off season)
• Drivers license
• Certificate III in Aquaculture (highly regarded) but not necessary 
• ChemCert (highly regarded) but not necessary
• Forklift license (highly regarded) but not necessary
