Position Title: Senior Farm Hand
Reports to: Operations Manager
About the role:
This is a new opportunity for the right candidate to join like-minded individuals who are committed to restoring West Australia's unique landscapes and protecting biodiversity.
As the Senior Farm Hand, you will play a pivotal role in the on-site management and maintenance of properties within our rapidly expanding vegetation carbon farming projects.
This position will also be responsible for managing one or more Farm Hands and includes working in remote areas during the week, predominantly in the Wheatbelt and South Western regions of Western Australia.
About the Organisation:Nativ Carbon’s purpose is to assist industry to deliver on their decarbonisation commitments through the development of biodiverse environmental plantings W.A.
We leverage our expertise in bio-diverse native vegetation, project management and access to millions of seedlings to deliver practical offset plantings at scale. Last year Nativ Carbon delivered over 5000ha of environmental plantings throughout regional Western Australia.

Where you fit inNativ Carbon works with companies and organisations who wish to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCU's) through vegetation farming in the West Australian Wheatbelt.
Nativ Carbon is committed to working with stakeholders to increase carbon sequestration in vegetation and soil to reduce Australia's net carbon emissions.
As Senior Farm hand you will be responsible for activities such as weed & pest control, fire breaks, across properties in the portfolio of Nativ Carbon's offset revegetation projects. Your contribution will be crucial in achieving the organisation's goals whilst maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental practices.
This is a hands-on role which will involve on the ground activities as well as overseeing the operation and maintenance of farm equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:Planning
- Assist in the development of weed control programs outlining objectives, timelines and resource requirements.
- Schedule, monitor and undertake farm equipment storage, repairs and maintenance.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with Operations team and external stakeholders, including landowners and community members.
- Nurture positive relationships with adjacent landholders.
- Communicate with stakeholders to ensure practices are in alignment with local and global sustainability goals.
Site Management
- Undertake ongoing maintenance activities, particularly weed & pest control and firebreak management, in alignment with programs made with Operations team and landholder requirements.
- Safe operation of equipment such as tractors, slashers, boom sprayers and general farm attachments.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Budgeting & Resource Allocation
- Assist with the preparation of budgets for materials and equipment maintenance, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial targets.
- Coordinate with finance and procurement teams to secure necessary resources and materials and proper record keeping.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Undertake regular monitoring to identify areas of concern and assess effectiveness of activities.
- Regularly report on progress, achievements and challenges for internal and external stakeholders.
- 5 years’ experience in Senior Farm Hand positions or similar.
- Knowledge and experience in effective techniques for broadacre weed control and land management activities.
- Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of farm plant and equipment.
- Experience with tracking systems such as Greenstar or Trimble.
- Moderate knowledge of native plants and weed identification.
- Well-developed communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and supervise a small team of Farm Hands.
- Proficient in safe handling of herbicides and pesticides and ability to secure licences.
- Experience working in a cross-cultural environment with the cultural context when working with Aboriginal or other Indigenous peoples.
- Demonstrated competence in written and oral communication skills, highly organised with attention to detail and the ability to use Microsoft Office programs in the preparation of reports.
Salary: We believe in rewarding people based on their performance and value to the company. An attractive salary package will be negotiated based on experience and skill set including a company vehicle.
Salary range: $95,000 - $110,000pa
This role will be offered as a permanent full time contract. A 6-month probationary period is applicable.
Commencement: Successful candidate to start in late May 2024.
