Job description

One of Australia's leading primary healthcare providers with over 60 clinics located throughout metropolitan and regional centres, comprising medical centres and four dedicated skin clinics. They have a long history in providing healthcare services, with a team of dedicated doctors, nurses and staff who are genuinely passionate about the health and well-being of their patients. They are engaged and compassionate about the communities in which they operate and work hard to ensure the best healthcare service is delivered to all individuals and families. Their services span all aspects of primary healthcare from general health assessments, paediatrics, travel medicine, skin checks, and chronic disease health assessments and management including diabetes and asthma. In many locations they also offer allied health services which will continue to expand, together with occupational health services.

They are seeking a strong, passionate Area Manger with proven experience in the role to join their existing team to provide high quality, personalised service to their client, staff and patients through the application of service standards and core processes.

The role includes direct operational management of a "home" clinic, fulfilling the duties of Practice Manager, with the extended responsibility of providing leadership and support through close collaboration with a small number of fellow Practice Managers within the geographic grouping.

Building the capability of our medical centre Practice Managers is a key focus, where you can apply your knowledge and experience of successful medical centre operations and growth through coaching, development, problem solving and performance management.

In this role, the Area Manager will be a passionate person who wants to use your skills and experience to improve the efficiency and sustainability of primary healthcare in Australia though the management and leadership of a small group of medical centres within a geographic region by working closely with medical centre Practice Managers to:

Key Responsibilities

  • To support medical practitioners, through a deep understanding of their various needs, preferences, and medical special interests.
  • Ensuring a supportive and high-performance workplace culture exists among clerical and nursing staff that values accountability, fairness and continuous learning and safety.
  • Help develop and manage a focus upon operational excellence and efficiency that delivers high levels of resource management, risk and accreditation management, patient focus and continuous improvement, including the utilisation of shared resources across medical centres within the geographic region, and technology driven innovation.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with the local healthcare community, including Primary Health Networks, public and private hospital services, specialist, and allied health providers to ensure high levels of collaboration and pursuit of commercial opportunities for targeted primary care service provision.
  • Improve the financial sustainability of medical centres including P&L responsibility, labour cost management, options for centre expansion and maximisation of centre utilisation.

Workplace Culture

  • Working with Practice Managers, to ensure an ongoing focus upon factors that contribute to a supportive and high-performance culture within each medical centre, resulting in high rates of practice management, clerical and nursing staff retention and engagement.
  • Supporting the promotion of a culture within each medical centre that values challenging the status quo and transparently using success and mistakes as opportunities for reflection, learning and growth.

Operational Excellence

  • Support Practice Managers to successfully use data driven tools and methods to proactively monitor and improve operational performance within each medical centre.
  • Closely collaborate with Practice Managers to adopt an operationally focused and effective risk-based approach to medical centre management.
  • Lead the local implementation and monitoring of technology driven patient experience and operational efficiency strategies through change management, training, and a focus upon the realisation of benefits.

Local Engagement

  • Develop and maintain close relationships with geographically based Primary Health Networks and other similar organisations to support the co-design of alternative or expanded models of primary care service provision, including the securing and maintenance of funding sources and other commercial arrangements.
  • Remain continuously inquisitive about options to improve integration with other locally based health care services to improve the medical centre efficiency, sustainability, patient service and financial performance.

Financial sustainability

  • Closely collaborate with Practice Managers and other key stakeholders to continuously improve each medical centres' financial performance through effective cost management, including labour resource management supporting achieve of medical centre and regional based EBITDA targets.
  • Provide a longer-term view regarding options to improve each medical centres' financial sustainability including centre expansion, relocation, and maximisation of centre utilisation.

  • Deep experience managing a successful medical practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships and interpersonal relationships.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience as an Area Manager or similar role
  • Previous experience with a medical environment is highly regarded
  • Experience engaging and support medical practitioners
  • Experience with local healthcare communities, including Primary Health Networks an advantage
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire your team achieve budgets, KPIs and profit targets.
  • Experience with report analysis
  • Ability to make important decisions that drive you're the business forward & manage controllable costs in line with budgets and guidelines to maximise profitability.
  • Experience in driving a high performing team, that are committed to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to coach, develop and provide feedback to your team to achieve goals.
  • Outstanding multi-tasking and time management skills, with the ability to structure your days to support your teams.
