Canberra - ACTThe RoleA HPC System Administrator will lead or assist system administrator activities supporting the Linux and software services in the High Performance Computing environment, provision and configure servers and services across a variety of platforms. The HPC System Administrator will be required to write support and security documentation, and work cohesively and communicate effectively with High Performance Computing Infrastructure project, technical and engineering staff, and stakeholder groups.ASD 5 Responsibilities.You will operate with limited direction to achieve outcomes, drawing on your relevant experience and skills as necessary. Additional responsibilities may include:
- Providing technical expertise to enable the configuration of system components and equipment for systems testing or correct application of operational procedures
- Collaborating with technical teams to develop and agree system integration plans and report on progress
- Recommending and implementing improvements to processes and tools
- Undertaking or supervising complex installations and de-installations of systems or components, including handover to the client
- Scheduling installation work around client priorities and resource availability.
- Ensuring adherence to established safety and quality procedures.
- Contributing to the planning and implementation of infrastructure/ installations maintenance and updates
- Using infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics. Configuring tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure
- Investigating and enabling the resolution of operational issues
- Preparing and maintaining operational procedures for storage management
- Monitoring capacity, performance, availability and other operational metrics. Taking appropriate action to ensure corrective and proactive maintenance of storage and backup systems to protect and secure business information
- Creating reports and proposals for continuous improvement
- Ensuring that system software is provisioned and configured to facilitate the achievement of service objectives
- Evaluating new system software and recommending adoption if appropriate. Planning the provisioning and testing of new versions of system software
- Investigating and coordinating the resolution of potential and actual service problems
- Ensuring that operational procedures and diagnostics for system software are current, accessible and well understood
- Ensuring that all requests for support are dealt with according to set standards and procedures.
- Drafting and maintaining procedures and documentation for applications support.
- Managing application enhancements to improve business performance.
- Advising on application security, licensing, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery needs.
