Kangaroo Island Council South Australia, is seeking a passionate, customer driven and experienced WHS Coordinator to join our People & Culture team and assist Council to fast track it's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality improvement projects, as well as contributing to the BAU tasks.

Position Objectives:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, People & Culture, this role will sit within the Human Resources and WHS department and partner with all areas of the business to promote safety.

The HSEQ Administration Officer has a supporting role in the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of WHS and Risk systems across the organisation. This includes the implementation, monitoring and review of work health & safety and risk management. The role will provide support in data entry, to ensure up to date records and compliance in all areas of WHS  for the organisation. The three main areas are;

  • Risk Management System Administration
  • WHS Management System Administration
  • General Administration

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to lead and model the organisational values and behaviours and the commitment to effectiveness and efficiency in achieving the strategic outcomes identified in Kangaroo Island Council’s Strategic Plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver detail oriented and analytical results
  • Excellent planning, organisational and business skills including time management and prioritisation
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities
  • Ability to market and promote corporate programs, projects and services
  • Ability to research training providers and materials for suitability to meet learning outcomes
  • A high level of written and oral communication with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all staff.
  • An understanding of appropriate Acts (as listed below) and contemporary best practice;
  • An understanding of the key principles of work health & safety
  • An understanding of the key principles of risk management
  • Contemporary understanding of corporate reporting practices
  • Knowledge of Council’s policies and procedures relevant to the role
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with limited supervision, sound time management skills to prioritise and organise tasks to meet team and organisational objectives and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, which may at times mean assisting other business units.
  • Proficiency in current Windows based computer systems, software applications and database input and maintenance
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and demonstrate sound judgement and decision making skills

Qualifications:

  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or other related discipline, OR
  • Relevant demonstrated experience working within a WHS team
  • C Class Drivers Licence

Key Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • Experience in administration practices and procedures is essential;
  • including schedule and meeting management and data entry
  • Experience in computerised applications, systems and web based
  • technologies;

    • Excel

Desirable

  • Experience with the co-ordination and administration of programs, processes and/or frameworks
  • Experience in working in a local government environment
  • Experience in computerised applications, systems and web based technologies
  • Skytrust
  • Microsoft 365
  • Microsoft Teams

  • An understanding of appropriate Acts (as listed below) and contemporary best practice

Eligibility:

  • Right to work in Australia.
  • Medical assessment including drug & alcohol testing.
  • Criminal history check.
  • Reference checks.

Remuneration:

The salary being offered for this role is $72,000 - $81,000 plus superannuation, depending on level of experience.
