Who is Harbison?
Harbison is a not-for-profit organisation owned by the community of the Southern Highlands. Volunteers founded Harbison in the late 1950s to provide local, independent, high-quality care and accommodation for the aged and disabled in the Southern Highlands and surrounding areas.
Today, we provide general and specialised care across a range of settings and are one of the largest employers in the Southern Highlands. What is the Role?
The Assistant Accountant manages our organisation's financial reporting and compliance functions. The position will ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports and compliance documents.
In this role, you will be responsible for the following (but not limited to):
- Assist in the general-end close activities and ensure accurate financial records are maintained.
- Collect data for the preparation of monthly estimates.
- Complete the ABS survey and attend the Stewart Brown benchmark survey.
- Prepare and complete the quarterly and annual ACFR and other prudential reports.
- Perform tax compliance work, including FBT, BAS, and PAYG
- Assist in the audit process and liaise with external auditors as required.
- Assist the Finance Manager in preparing the finance performance report at the end of each month.
- Help provide documentation for statutory accounts to be finalised by an external service provider.
- Monitor and analyse cash flow and prepare as required forecasts, projections, and other reports.
- Process invoices, ensure timely payments to Vendors and reconcile Accounts payable transactions during the Account Payable officer’s absence.
- Document the finance procedure to ensure the finance team adheres to the company's policies and procedures.
- Complete other ad hoc tasks as required by the Finance Manager.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 1 year experience in financial compliance and reporting
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software.
- Knowledge of aged care funding mechanisms would be an advantage.
