The Role
An exciting opportunity exists at the EL1 level to join our fast paced and results oriented Financial Performance and Management (FP&M) Division within the Defence Finance Group (DFG). DFG leads financial management across Defence, delivering financial oversight, strategies, management and assistance to achieve Defence’s Intended Results.
Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
- Supporting Groups and Services in managing within their allocated budgets, including aligning budgets with business activities and advice on managing financial pressure.
- Building and sustaining relationships with stakeholders, and engaging with stakeholders on budgets, delegations, funding, financial policies and financial commitments.
- Analysing and interpreting financial data as well as facilitating Group and Service input into the internal and external budget cycle.
- Providing input into departmental and Ministerial briefings, submissions and questions on notice.
- Supporting Groups and Services in meeting their statutory reporting obligations for the Annual Report, Budget papers and other financial disclosures.
- Leading a high performing team, through clear and consistent communication, strong performance and behavioural standards, delegating responsibility whilst guiding and developing people.

About our Team
FP&M Division delivers financial advice and performance reporting to Groups and Services, Ministers and other government departments, across all Defence programs and activities including workforce, capital, sustainment and operating budgets.
FP&M Division consists of over 400 staff working in six branches, each managing around $6 Billion per year, with embedded finance staff across the country working closely with business areas.
Principally, the Division is responsible for delivering financial management information and advice to ensure Defence leaders can make well informed decisions. Think big numbers, many complex projects running in parallel, and close public scrutiny requiring carefully managed finances.
The Finance Air Force Branch sits within the FP&M Division and provides finance support to Air Force.
