Strong liaison and communication skills are essential, as this position involves working closely with all sections of OGTR and with the Gene Technology Policy and Governance Section of the Department of Health and Aged Care.
The key duties of the position include
- Advance OGTR's contribution to implementing recommendations of the Third Review of the National Gene Technology Scheme, including legislative and administrative reforms.
- Provide advice on Regulatory Practice issues and/or subject matter expertise to support ongoing operational policy development relating to the regulation of genetically modified organisms.
- Prepare complex documents including reports, agenda papers, ministerial submissions and briefings.
- Initiate and undertake research, analysis and problem solving on complex issues to support and contribute to the work of the Office.
- Represent the Office in liaison and engagement with external stakeholders, such as other government agencies, representatives of research institutions and industry, international bodies and members of the public.
- Manage staff and coordinate with legal advisors and consultants.
- Provide support to the Director of the work unit and to the Gene Technology Regulator.
