GA 2023)Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/SS887570This is a permanent part-time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2024We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person to provide day-to-day maintenance, landscaping and gardening services and join our wonderful community. Being energetic and having a keen desire to maintain grounds and gardens in our vibrant and innovative school, would be highly desirable.The successful applicant will maintain school grounds, including turf areas, garden beds, shrubs and trees, ensure grounds and gardens are in a clean and tidy condition, providing students and staff with a safe external learning environment. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a suitable growing environment for the soft landscape, including gardens, lawns and broader turf management, maintaining hard landscaping such as courts and paving and marking sports areas as required.The Assistant Gardener Handyperson performs minor repairs and maintenance according to the Department’s policies and guidelines, maintain gardening facilities, equipment and tools to a neat, clean and serviceable standard and report faults as appropriate.The successful applicant should perform tasks and duties using safe work practices, including management of hazardous substances in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation, in a timely manner with minimal disruption to students and staff.The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment and apply safe working practices.
- Ability to assist in maintaining both soft and hard landscaped areas.
- Ability in the practical application and safe use of hand tools.

- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
