The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Assistant Manager, Health Information Services to provide a critical role within Corrections and Justice Services.

About the Business Unit

Justice Health is the business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety responsible for health, mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) services in Victoria's prisons and Youth Justice centres. Justice Health is also responsible for the delivery of rehabilitation services across the Youth Justice custodial and community system. Justice Health sets the standards for the delivery of these services, monitors service delivery, and manages contracts with service providers for public prisons and Youth Justice.

About the Role

The Assistant Manager, Health Information Services is responsible for assisting in the management of prisoner health records in accordance with legislative requirements. The position will contribute to the development, implementation and review of appropriate policies, procedures and guidelines to support the efficient and effective management of requests for access to health information and records held by Justice Health. The role is also responsible for assisting in the coordination of request handling, managing workflow and deadlines, and providing a first line of oversight/QA over team outputs.

Some of your duties will include:
Act as the secondary point of contact and specialist advisor for complex and sensitive health information requests and complaints, and respond to enquiries from the department, staff, courts, legal representatives, health professionals and members of the public about access to health information, Freedom of Information (FOI) and privacy matters.
Provide high level support to the Manager Health Information Services including team leadership as required.
Develop, regularly review and update the standards, policies and procedures guiding health information request processes within Justice Health, according to relevant legislation.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:
Eligibility for membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia is highly desirable.
Knowledge of, and experience working with, the Freedom of Information Act 1982, Health Records Act 2001, Privacy & Data Protection Act 2014 and other relevant legislation, with the ability to apply these Acts to requests for access to health information is highly desirable.
Experience providing authoritative advice to senior management on health information management policies and strategy is also desirable.

Qualifications

Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management and/or Law or other related discipline is highly desirable.
