Situated in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, Tooma Station stands as a testament to the success of a rich history spanning 50 years of family ownership. Tooma Station, a sprawling 6,400-acre operation, flourishes in a high-rainfall area of the Snowy Mountains. Here, a diverse range of crops, from temperate forage seed to hybrid canola, thrive both under dryland and extensive irrigation on rich alluvial river flats. The cropping enterprises compliment the permanent pastures in supporting approximately 2,000 Angus breeders with Hazeldean, Landfall and Weeran genetics. Tooma Station maintains a top-tier fleet featuring equipment including John Deere and Claas headers, Amazone Pantera Sprayer, a Seedhawk air seeder and various John Deere Tractors ranging from 110 – 290hp. The seed is cleaned through its own dedicated seed processing plant in Corryong. Employing 11 dedicated permanent and part-time staff, the team expands seasonally to meet peak workloads.
The Role:
As the Assistant Operations Manager, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Farm Manager and key staff to enhance all aspects of cropping and livestock operations. Responsibilities include strategic planning, staff management, and fostering connections with contractors and suppliers.
We are looking for an experienced candidate with a strong cropping and livestock management background. This key position requires expertise in agronomy, crop production systems, and animal husbandry. The role offers plenty of opportunities for professional development and growth, enabling the candidate to learn innovative ideas and practices while honing their leadership skills. Located 5 km from the Tooma township, it is well situated with Tumbarumba, only 35kms and Corryong, 30kms down the road, for shopping, schools, medical services and work opportunities for partners. For major services, Wagga and Albury are within a 2-hour drive, providing everything you need.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Farm Manager with the day-to-day management of the farm and its performance. This includes operational management, employees, logistics and leadership and Workplace Health and Safety.
- Take authority/responsibility when the Farm Manager is absent
- Operate farm machinery during all stages of crop production
- Take part in annual planning and rolling out of livestock and cropping programs
- Assist with monitoring crop health/progress and communicating this to the Farm Manager.
- Assist the livestock team through all stages of the livestock year.
- Assist with developing farm and group culture aligning with the company's values.
- Work in different locations and states as seasonal timing requires.
Minimum Requirements
- Specific experience in operating farm plant and equipment, including spray rigs and spreaders.
- Strong cropping experience, including an understanding of agronomy and crop production systems.
- Livestock experience, including knowledge of low-stress cattle handling, stock management and livestock systems.
- Current chemical users’ certificates, full driver’s and truck licences (preferred but not necessary).
