We are seeking applications for an Assistant Secretary to lead the Electronic Surveillance Branch in the Criminal Justice Division of the National Security and Criminal Justice Group.
Electronic Surveillance Branch delivers the Government’s commitment to comprehensively reform Australia’s Electronic Surveillance legislative framework following Dennis Richardson AC’s Comprehensive Review of the Legal Framework of the National Intelligence Community (the Comprehensive Review). This is the most significant reform of Australia’s national security legislation in over four decades.
The Assistant SecretaryElectronic Surveillance Branch is responsible for leading the reform of Australia’s Electronic Surveillance legislative framework. This involves repealing and replacing the existing powers currently divided between the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979, the Surveillance Devices Act 2004 and parts of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979 with a single Act.
