Healthcare Management Advisors (HMA) is a boutique management consulting firm (established in 1998) that provides specialised, high-quality services to the Australian health and aged care industries. Our clients include public and private-sector organisations. We undertake management consulting projects across a range of technical areas, including evaluation, program development, needs assessment and service mapping, and cost-benefit analysis. Our projects cover diverse subject areas, including cancer, mental health, regional and rural health, and aged care.

  • Salary range: $65,000 to $85,000 + 11.5% superannuation

About the role

As an Associate Consultant with HMA, you will assist in the execution of health and aged care projects, support the development of strategic advice and help build positive working relationships with our clients. Bring your enthusiasm for learning, an analytical mindset and join our dynamic team of consultants. 

Your duties will be, but are not limited to:

  • working as part of the HMA team to undertake assignments for health and aged care sector clients (government departments, providers and peak bodies), maintaining an appropriate professional balance between the quality of service provided and commercial profitability
  • attending meetings with clients (virtual and in person)
  • contributing to the development of project tenders 
  • contributing to project documentation including project plans and reports for clients
  • support consultation with stakeholders including peak bodies, clinicians, consumer representatives
  • literature reviews and environmental scans
  • collection, analysis and interpretation of data (quantitative and qualitative) 
  • formulation of strategy and recommendations
  • contributing to project management processes including scheduling stakeholder consultations and preparing project status reports.

About you / selection criteria:

The ideal candidate must hold tertiary qualifications and ideally have 12 months of professional work experience in a relevant field (experience in the health sector, health policy, health economics, or management consulting is favourable but not essential). Additionally, the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a broad range of audiences
  • the capacity to operate in a commercial environment and a commitment and capacity to develop and refine technical skills
  • the capacity to work autonomously and as part of a team 
  • good time management skills including task prioritisation and capacity to use project management software
  • good analytical skills including the capability to design and undertake quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • the ability to prepare and produce written documentation of a high standard
  • well-developed skills in Office 365, and the capability to integrate other software/ platforms, and 
  • the ability to work to deadlines.
