Working as an Associate in the Credit team, your role is to provide analytical and operational support to the Credit team in the development, implementation, monitoring, reporting and ongoing management of the Agency's Credit investment program. The role includes aspects of external relationship management, market research and investment manager due diligence. The Associate will play a role in shaping the overall strategy and guidelines of the total portfolio by focusing on the development of the Credit portfolio.

The Associate, Credit will be part of the Credit team within the Assets team. The Assets team at Federal Department includes dedicated investment teams devoted to sectors including Listed Equities, Credit, Alternatives, Private Equity, Unlisted Infrastructure & Timberland, Property, and Listed Tangibles.
The Credit team is responsible for managing a range of fixed income and credit-focused mandates across each of the funds managed by the Agency. These include liquid and illiquid investments across a broad spectrum of collateral types and risk profiles on a global basis. Strategy formulation, sector and manager selection and monitoring, and portfolio and risk management are key elements of the team's role, along with contribution to total portfolio management. We predominantly invest via external managers, so our security-level investing is generally limited to co-investments.

Experience in institutional credit investment or structuring is beneficial, although other relevant finance, banking or professional services experience will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Credit team in idea generation and portfolio management
* Provide analytical support for the development of the organisation's views and strategy on global credit.
* Monitor trends and new initiatives in the industry, learn about and contribute to research across sectors, contribute to the team's views on relative value, and apply these to the portfolio, as appropriate.
* Learn the due diligence and monitoring process for Credit investments, including the preparation and delivery of regular portfolio and performance analysis and reporting.
* Assist with screening potential investment opportunities, as well as the selection and negotiation of arrangements with investment managers and other service providers.
* Contribute to the delivery of high-quality investment papers, research reports and portfolio information for a range of constituencies.
* Maintain a sound knowledge of the overall portfolio composition and risk/return characteristics.
* Develop an understanding of, and over time contribute to, the investment implementation process, including the legal, tax and operational aspects of investing in credit markets.
Continuously improve our technology and tools for managing portfolio data
* Manage existing portfolio data and analytics; ensure that accurate data is received in a timely manner from our managers, custodians, and other data providers.
* Assist in the design and presentation of portfolio performance reporting.
* Work with senior team members to spec and refine market and portfolio monitoring tools (liaising with investment technology and development resources where necessary).
Collaboration and relationship management
* Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, building strong bonds internally within the investment team, and the teams that support and contribute to the success of the investment program.
* Support the development of a collaborative approach across the total organisation and support organisation-wide projects, when required.

Skills and Competencies
Qualifications
* A tertiary education including a degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Science or a similar quantitative field. Postgraduate qualifications are desirable but not required.
Experience
* Demonstrates a strong interest in financial markets and investing, with relevant experience in a finance, consulting, or asset management role. Prior investment or structuring experience in the credit asset class is beneficial but not required.
* An understanding of and interest in investment theory, financial valuation techniques, and drivers of credit markets, including macro-economic factors.
* A high level of numeracy and literacy including experience in preparing written materials.
* Proficiency in the full Microsoft Office suite, and demonstrated ability to develop financial models and analysis in Microsoft Excel. Proficiency in the use of financial industry platforms such as Bloomberg is also desirable.
