AustralianSuper's $60b Mid Risk portfolio (Real Assets and Private Credit) has grown considerably over the past few years and is expected to grow at over 20% pa over the foreseeable future. This future growth, driven by strong member inflows as well as investment returns from the existing portfolio, has necessitated the need recruit a new team member who will focus on portfolio construction and strategy in the Mid Risk Portfolio Strategy & Research (PSR) Team.
Your new role
As an Associate Director within the Mid Risk PSR team, you will:
- Focus on continued development of our portfolio construction framework and Portfolio Strategy;
- Lead reviews of the Mid Risk portfolio to make recommendations on sectors and geographies for future investments;
- Evaluate and monitor risk exposures within the portfolio such as development risk and other risk factors.
The appointee will have considerable knowledge of investing, portfolio construction frameworks and understanding of overall portfolio objectives. Ideally the candidate will have detailed knowledge and understanding of the infrastructure, real estate and private credit sectors globally.
This is a 12 month contract role.
Key Duties will include:
- Enhancing the long-term Mid Risk portfolio construction process designed to set the long-term direction for Portfolio Strategy;
- Considering the appropriate pricing of risk factors within the portfolio and monitoring of other uncompensated risks;
- Proactively identifying, initiating and coordinating high quality research pertinent to the strategic priorities of the Mid Risk portfolio with guidance from senior colleagues; and
- Where appropriate, representing Mid Risk for department level research alongside teams across the investment department;
- Supporting key decision makers with analysis and modelling to assist in medium term asset allocation decisions within the Mid Risk portfolio;
- Contributing to the assessment of new investments as it relates to portfolio fit and recommended allocation;
- Leading an overall approach to developing the Mid Risk portfolio to meet its strategic objectives (high returns, increased allocation and reduced costs);
- Managing portfolio design to meet key objectives and competing trade-offs: performance objectives vs portfolio objectives (incl deployment, cost etc);
- Leading junior colleagues for the enhancement of the Mid Risk portfolio forecasting and modelling, including scenario analysis and planning for delivering portfolio objectives within constraints;
- Leading engagement with the Real Assets and Private Credit teams to provide clear portfolio objectives for seeking investments (e.g. target industry sector allocations, position sizing etc.)
What you'll need
- Experience working in either investment management/consulting with specific experience around Portfolio Strategy / construction or portfolio manager in Portfolio Strategy & construction in an investment manager environment;
- Experience in developing investment strategy;
- Ability to work across the investment department in a team-based environment. Should "think of the whole" and have awareness of other teams in seeking the best outcomes for members;
- Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and engage with senior stakeholders;
- Excellent verbal communication skills;
- Experience in analysing and interpreting data and investment processes;
- Experience in presenting findings to senior management or clients on a regular basis;
- Compliance / regulatory awareness and familiarity;
- Strong people and relationship management skills;
- Diligent with excellent attention to detail;
- Superior quantitative, financial modelling and analytical skills;
- Strong tertiary qualifications.
