Job description

Some career choices have more impact than others.

At HSBC we exist with the purpose of Opening up a World of Opportunity. We use our unique expertise, capabilities, breadth and perspectives to provide opportunities for our customers and colleagues through global connectivity. We bring together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world - for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities and the planet we all share.

As an HSBC employee in Australia, you'll have access to tailored professional development opportunities, competitive pay, an embedded flexible working culture and a range of employee benefits. These include market-leading subsidised private health cover, enhanced parental pay and support when returning to work, subsidised banking products and services, bonus leave days and wellness programmes including discounted gym memberships.

HSBC Commercial Banking provides universal financial services support to Australia-based Large Corporates around the world. Leveraging the strength, scope and expertise of our global banking network, Commercial Banking is positioned as an essential partner to large enterprises seeking to maximise their potential and offers streamlined business access to HSBC's broad range of market leading banking products and services.

HSBC continues to achieve outstanding growth in the Australian market as demonstrated by our continuing rise in market surveys, league table rankings, recent awards and our leadership position in sustainable finance. These achievements, when complemented with our globally-renowned trade finance, transactional banking and markets capabilities, ensure that HSBC is poised for further acceleration in the corporate space.

Our Melbourne Large Corporates team serves both public and private companies and covers some of Australia's largest and most iconic names. As an Associate, you will partner with a relationship Director to drive account management strategies targeted at delivering outstanding client service, executing large transactions, effecting global product mandates, and maintaining responsibility for day-to-day portfolio activities.

Putting your credit analysis and financial modelling skills to good use, this is a rare opportunity in the Melbourne market to have exposure to a variety of highly complex banking solutions across a diverse range of industries. You will be joining our Australian Large Corporates team at an exciting time of growth, in an international banking environment. This role would best suit an individual passionate about a career in Commercial Banking, keen to develop into a relationship Director over time.

Your main responsibilities will include assisting the relationship Director to:

  • Engaging with multiple touchpoints within both our existing and target clients to build and maintain strong relationships, identify client needs, and position the Bank's solutions accordingly.
  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of our clients' industries and associated markets, including both local and global dynamics.
  • Working in with a range of global product specialists including, among others, Debt Capital Markets, Leveraged and Syndicated Finance, Global Markets, Trade & Receivables Finance, Liquidity & Cash Management, and Private Banking.
  • Writing credit evaluations (new submissions, annual reviews) on our client set, including analysis of financial information and timely and accurate preparation of high-quality credit applications for general corporate and structured lending scenarios.
  • Ensuring strong adherence to credit policies (including ongoing monitoring of clients), financial crime compliance and regulatory compliance.
  • Providing support with instructing, negotiating and executing client facility documentation requirements, working in with internal and external legal counsel as required.
  • Coordinating with the team's dedicated Portfolio Service Executive to ensure administrative tasks are completed in line with client requirements and internal reporting needs.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience in a corporate / institutional finance setting (including credit fund, ratings agency, major accountancy firm, or investment bank), with a fundamental understanding of key corporate banking products including bilateral and syndicated loans, debt capital markets, trade finance, transactional banking and treasury solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong and lasting relationships with internal and external parties.
  • Proven capability in writing comprehensive yet concise credit papers, with a high degree of accuracy under transaction deadlines including strength in financial modelling and sensitivity analysis.
  • Familiarity with APLMA loan documentation and Australian security structures.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with people at all levels including clients, peers, product specialists, industry specialists and credit risk personnel.
  • High levels of self-motivation, commitment and a desire to succeed.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A natural focus on providing superior customer service with a genuine desire to consistently meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • A degree in Finance, Business, Accountancy, Law or related disciplines - related post graduate qualifications such as Master of Finance, CFA, CPA, or similar will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in Financial modelling will be highly regarded.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian or New Zealand PR/Citizenship, or who can show they currently have unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.

We value different perspectives, we succeed together, collaborating across boundaries, we take responsibility, holding ourselves accountable to get things done. Through these values, HSBC is committed to building a culture where all employees are appreciated and respected and where opinions count. We take pride in providing a workplace that fosters continuous professional development, flexible working and opportunities to grow in an inclusive environment. Applications from First Nations peoples are encouraged.
