We are seeking an Independent Member to join our Audit and Risk Committee as established under Section 53 of the Local Government Act 2020.
The Committee supports Council in discharging its oversight responsibilities related to financial and performance reporting, risk management, fraud prevention, internal controls, and assurance activities including internal and external Audit and compliance with its policies and legal obligations.
It performs its role by monitoring, reviewing and advising Council on matters set out in its charter, which can be found by searching committees on our website at mountalexander.vic.gov.au and clicking on the Audit and Risk Committee section.
Membership of the Committee comprises four Independent Members and two councillors. Council has one vacancy on the Committee for a three-year term.
Meetings
There are usually four meetings per year in February, May, August, and November. Meetings are held at the Civic Centre, 185 Lyttleton Street, Castlemaine, and run for approximately 3 hours. A sitting fee is payable to Independent Members which is currently $525.00, ex GST plus travel.
Selection Criteria
Applicants are required to hold a relevant degree qualification and/or should demonstrate experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Current issues facing Local Government and the Shire;
- Governance, policy and compliance oversight within public sector organisations;
- Risk management, control, external and internal audit within public sector organisations;
- Financial reporting requirements of Local Government;
- Business or financial management/reporting.
