Bas First Nations Non Executive Board Director

The Barwon Asset Solutions First Nations Non-Executive Board Director is appointed by the Barwon Water Board for the purpose of providing a First Nations perspective and input to the BAS Board and to actively participate in Board meetings with voting rights.  In addition to providing a pathway for, and pipeline of, future First Nations board members that provides practical experience to develop governance skills relevant to public sector boards.

Barwon Water is Victoria’s largest Urban Regional Water Authority servicing a significant area of the State including Geelong, Victoria’s second largest city, major growth corridors and globally significant areas such as the Great Ocean Road tourism region.  The Barwon Water Group, comprises of two entities: Barwon Water (BW) and Barwon Asset Solutions (BAS).

As a commercial fully owned subsidiary of Barwon Water, Barwon Asset Solutions (BAS) delivers quality asset maintenance, natural resource and land management and project services across a variety of industry sectors.  BAS also provides employment opportunities within our region and generates non-regulated revenue for Barwon Water.  A proprietary company limited by shares; it is registered under the Corporations Act.

The role will provide the opportunity to develop skills in the areas of public sector board governance including strategic planning, managing risk, audit, and oversight of the corporation's operations. Previous Board experience is not a requirement, and people of all ages and abilities are encouraged to apply. This development opportunity will come with the appropriate support, development training, and mentorship in line with the successful applicant’s experience.

A natural communicator, you are adept at influencing others and build strong and meaningful relationships.  You’re someone with excellent business and financial skills, with an understanding of how to align business and community needs with environmental, sustainability and financial goals, and passionate to deliver real change.

Your knowledge of Aboriginal Culture and contemporary society will help in advising on complex and sensitive issues.

This is a part-time contract position to 30 June 2026 at a pro-rata rate.
