Position Title:Bereavement Counselor (3-Month Contract)

About Banksia Palliative Care Service: Banksia Palliative Care Service is a dynamic non-profit community palliative care organization. Our dedicated team of health professionals strives to make a difference every day. We provide compassionate care to clients and their families in the North-East region of Melbourne, covering the council areas of Banyule, Nillumbik, and Whittlesea. Our office is situated in Heidelberg.

Role Overview: We are expanding our Allied Health Team and seeking a part-time (0.6 EFT) Bereavement Counselor.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will:

  • A  Degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or other relevant areas and post graduate qualifications and extensive experience in loss and grief
  • Advanced skills in grief and bereavement counselling and group facilitation in a client centre environment 
  • Competency in providing grief and bereavement education
  • Competent in delivering culturally appropriate loss and grief intervention strategies for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) clients 
  • Proven psychosocial and loss and grief assessment and care planning skills in the palliative care arena

 

  • Possess a minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience.
  • Experience in community-based organizations is preferred but not essential.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and respond effectively to competing demands.
  • Motivated to work as part of a cohesive, respectful, and dynamic multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility in availability, recognizing that some aspects of the service may occur outside routine office hours (e.g., group work).

Requirements:

  • Mandatorily undertake a National Police Check and Working-with-Children certification.
  • Hold a current and unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Be a permanent Australian resident.
