About the opportunity
Join our team as a Biosecurity Officer and play a crucial role in protecting Western Australia's economy, environment, and agriculture. As a key member of the Biosecurity Directorate, you'll conduct unsupervised technical support and inspections to prevent and manage biosecurity risks. Responsibilities include disease and pest surveillance, regulatory inspections, and assistance with emergency responses. Showcase your expertise in pest and disease management, while contributing to research, analysis, and report preparation. Engage with producers and communities, promoting best practices in biosecurity and animal welfare. We currently have three (3) permanent full-time positions with flexible work arrangements available for immediate filling. One Biosecurity Officer (General) position is based in Geraldton, whilst the balance two Biosecurity Officer (Fruit Fly Surveillance) positions are based in Perth.
We are looking for individuals with:
- knowledge of exotic plants, pests and diseases and an understanding of Biosecurity,
- technical and practical skills related to the inspection of field and horticultural crops and liking towards working outdoors,
- ability to interpret and apply procedures and guidelines, and
- knowledge of agricultural systems and an ability to grow external networks and work within the Agricultural sector.
