About the role:
Our Birra Li Manager will have a passion for leading a team! You’ll lead and manage the Birra Li Aboriginal Maternal and Child Health Services in providing culturally responsive maternal, infant, and Child Health care services to pregnant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their families, or pregnant non-Indigenous women having an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander baby located in the Port Stephens, Newcastle, and Lake Macquarie Local Government Areas. Birra Li services include Pregnancy and Post-birth Care, Cultural Support, Child and Family Health Care (blue book checks), Immunisation, Specialist Breastfeeding Support, Social Work Services, Health Education, and referrals to other services.
- Our team of 23 includes Midwives, Child and Family Health Nurses, Social Workers, and Administration Staff.
- Based at Newcastle Community Health Service you’ll be joining a dynamic and innovative leadership/management team within the Maternity and Gynaecology Service.
- Travel to John Hunter Hospital, our Community Health Service sites as well as home visits will be required.
- Interacting with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and establishing strong relationships are central aspects of this role.
Where you’ll be working:
We are a Hunter New England Local Health District, NSW Health program, which is delivered through John Hunter Hospital and a number of local health centres including Aboriginal community-controlled Health Services in the Port Stephens, Newcastle, and Lake Macquarie areas of NSW. Home visits can also be arranged for some services.

Requirements:
- Holds relevant tertiary qualifications in Nursing, Allied Health, Aboriginal Health Practitioner, or other clinical discipline and holds general registration with the appropriate professional board or membership of the relevant association and/or has equivalent relevant experience.
- Active involvement in the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and commitment to improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
