The Opportunity:

The NIAA is looking for inspiring and experienced leaders to fill a number of current and possible future vacancies in its leadership team as Branch Managers (SES Band 1). To be a strong contender, you will be a highly motivated leader with proven people management and leadership skills.

As a Branch Manager, you will help drive the purpose of the NIAA by working in genuine partnership to enable the self-determination and aspirations of First Nations communities. You will also help deliver on a range of government commitments and priorities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We are seeking to fill existing and potential future vacancies across two streams:

Policy and Program

As a Branch Manager within this stream you will lead, influence and invest in social, cultural, economic and strategic policies and programs that contribute to improving the wellbeing and economic aspirations of First Nations people and communities. You will develop strategies to deliver on the Australian Government’s priorities for First Nations people including a focus on strengthening elements of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and enhancing economic, educational, health and justice outcomes for First Nations peoples, strengthening job opportunities, and improving access to appropriate housing.

Enabling Services

As a Branch Manager within this stream you will lead, influence and invest in our Agency’s corporate and enabling functions which are integral to the Agency’s operations and achievement of the NIAA’s priorities. The Enabling Services stream includes responsibility for functions including integrity, human resource management, legal services, governance, assurance, risk management, communications, financial management, business operations, grant design and administration, data and digital, IT strategy, program compliance and fraud. To be suitable for this stream, you will have experience in leading professional and technical functions that support the work of the Agency.

You will be asked to identify which stream you would like to be considered for in your application.

  • approaches to being innovative, consultative, resilient and capable of taking personally accountable for the quality of advice and the delivery of your results.
  • high level people management skills, including enabling an inclusive and productive culture that supports high quality performance, staff learning and capability development.
  • track record in leading policy creation and implementation and/or program delivery. 
  • demonstrated ability to promote the APS Values and Code of Conduct, as well as the NIAA Values and Behaviours.

Eligibility:

  • To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (Secret, Confidential, Highly Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level. 
  • The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
